Notes:
Metaphor extraction might be defined as hunting elusive metaphors using lexical resources. CorMet is a computational, corpus-based conventional metaphor extraction system from the University of Pennsylvania. CorMet is a corpus-based system for discovering metaphorical mappings between concepts. Metaforager is a highly scalable, minimally-supervised learning system for extracting metaphors from large plain-text corpora. Chinese noun phrase metaphor recognition is using a maximum entropy approach. Constraints are used in the automatic generation of Chinese metaphors. A database of related concepts of Chinese (Mandarin) metaphors has been built based on WordNet and SUMO. Syntactic features have been used in identification analysis of Chinese verb metaphors. The metaphor extraction process in which metaphor types in Mandarin metaphors were first manually extracted. Semi-automatic metaphor extraction and analysis may also be used. The Hamburg Metaphor Database project is an online database of French and German metaphors which came into being in 2002. Affect may be transferred by metaphor to an intelligent conversational agent, using affect extraction methods.
Textual entailment has been proposed as an evaluation framework for metaphor resolution. If research in metaphor dimensions of variation is to continue and expand, then software for metaphor identification must be developed. If a semi-automatized program is to be generated for the purpose of metaphor extraction, one first needs to establish the link between active units. Tony Berber Sardinha has been engaged in developing software for metaphor extraction for years. Both semantic role labeling and typed dependency parsing have been used for computational metaphor identification. Automatic metaphor recognition may be based on semantic relation patterns. One computational exploration of metaphor comprehension processes used a semantic space model. Semantic annotation tools may be exploited for metaphor analysis. In the field of computational linguistics, work has been done on automatically discriminating metonymy from metaphor. Metonymy differs from metaphor in that it is the substitution of the name of an attribute or adjunct for that of the thing meant. metaViz is an online application that uses computational metaphor identification to find conceptual metaphors in political blogs. Collocation is one method of metaphor extraction; collocation lists are best at recall, but are weaker at precision than humans. Topic models have been considered for metaphor extraction and estimating the frequency of metaphors.
