Notes:
The SEMAINE project was a European Union funded research project that aimed to develop a “Sensitive Artificial Listener” (SAL) system, which was a multimodal dialogue system that could converse with a human user. The system integrated components for detecting emotions, interest, gender, etc. from the user’s voice and non-verbal behavior. The project was led by the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and involved multiple research institutions and companies across Europe. The ultimate goal of the project was to create a new type of interface for computers that could respond more appropriately to users’ emotions and non-verbal cues.
