Automatic Summarization

Notes:

Automatic summarization, also known as automated summarization or simply summarization, is the process of generating a shortened version of a text document or other piece of written content. This shortened version, known as a summary, typically contains the main points and key information from the original document, but is much shorter in length.

A summarization system is a computer program or other automated tool that is designed to generate summaries of text documents or other written content. A summarizer is a specific instance of such a system that is used to generate a summary of a specific document or piece of content.

There are a variety of different techniques and approaches that can be used to create automated summarization systems, including natural language processing, machine learning, and statistical analysis. These systems can be used in a wide range of applications, including information retrieval, content management, and text analysis.

  • Extraction-based summarization is a technique for generating summaries of text documents or other written content by selecting and extracting specific sentences or other units of text from the original document. This approach is based on the idea that important information is often contained in specific phrases or sentences within the document, and that these can be identified and extracted to create a summary.

  • Keyphrase-based summarization is a technique that involves identifying and extracting key phrases or terms from a document or other piece of written content, and using these to generate a summary. This approach is based on the idea that important concepts and ideas within a document are often conveyed through specific phrases or terms, and that these can be identified and used to create a summary of the document.
  • Summarizer architecture refers to the overall design and structure of a summarization system, including the various components and modules that make up the system, and the relationships and interactions between these components. The architecture of a summarization system can have a significant impact on its performance and effectiveness, and is an important factor to consider when designing and implementing a summarization system.
