Notes:
Concatenative synthesis is a technique used in digital audio synthesis that involves piecing together small snippets of recorded sound, called “units,” to create new, synthesized sounds. This technique is often used in speech synthesis, where it is used to create natural-sounding speech by concatenating units of recorded speech sounds.
Concatenative synthesis has several advantages over other forms of digital audio synthesis. For one, it can produce very natural-sounding results because it uses actual recorded sounds as its building blocks. Additionally, it allows for a high degree of flexibility and control, as the individual units can be selected and arranged in various ways to create different sounds.
One of the key challenges of concatenative synthesis is finding the right units to use and combining them in a way that sounds natural. This typically involves analyzing the properties of the target sound and selecting units that match its characteristics, such as pitch, timbre, and duration. The units are then stitched together seamlessly to create the final synthesized sound.
