How can we relate psychology and robotics?

When people speak of robotics, they generally mean hardware robots, or hard bots; however, I maintain that software robots, or soft bots, may also be legitimately referred to as virtual robots. There is a philosophical block within robotics that maintains that true robots must be embodied, which is usually given as the reason why NPC game AI cannot be used in real world robots, for instance.

If scientific psychology can be thought of as trying to understand the software of the brain’s hardware, then the results of statistical psychology in particular should be analogous to the algorithms of artificial intelligence. AI could then be considered something like the spirit of a robot. For humans, the psychological trap here is that of anthropomorphism, into which even Alan Turing fell. In reality, there is no good reason why robots should be anything like humans, as well as no logical reason for people to insist on projecting the illusion of soul onto robots….
