A centaur is a man-machine team that can work together on problems and can out-perform either humans or computers working alone in domains as varied as chess-playing and protein folding. The term “centaur” comes from the mythical creature of Greek mythology, which is a creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. In the context of man-machine teams, the term “centaur” refers to the combination of human and machine capabilities, which can be more effective than either humans or machines working alone. Centaurs are typically used to solve complex problems that require both human intuition and machine speed and accuracy. They are often used in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and data analysis.
