**South Korean Government to Introduce Dedicated AI for Administrative Work **
On May 12th, Deputy Minister Choi Sang-dae of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance in South Korea announced plans to introduce a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) system for use in government administrative work.
Choi made these remarks during a special lecture titled “The Future of ChatGPT and Implications for Economic Policy,” hosted by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. The lecture was designed to enhance employees’ understanding of new technologies and emerging markets, following a previous event in February on “Aging and Care Robots.”
The event also featured a demonstration by a domestic company that received an innovation award at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023). The company showcased a virtual human model resembling Deputy Minister Choi using voice and image synthesis technology.
Furthermore, the lecture explored the current state and considerations of generative AI technology based on various interactions with rapidly emerging ChatGPT programs. Discussions on industrial applications of AI and the potential future impacts of ChatGPT were also conducted.
Deputy Minister Choi emphasized the need to expand government investment to stimulate the AI industry utilizing data. He mentioned plans to establish a private sector-led talent development system and expand successful projects to foster talent needed in the market.
Moreover, Choi mentioned plans to introduce a government-exclusive AI, secured for privacy, that can be integrated with the private sector’s AI system for administrative tasks.
This year, the government plans to invest a total of 16.7 billion won in strengthening AI capabilities of industrial professionals and 17 billion won in fostering software professionals.
