South Korean retail giant Shinsegae’s liquor distribution arm has chosen virtual social media influencer Young Twenty (YT) to promote highball, a popular cocktail in the country. YT, a creation of Shinsegae and domestic AI graphics company **Pulse9**, has a substantial Instagram following and will promote a highball brand and five types of skewers via Shinsegae L&B’s official Instagram. The highball in question uses a whisky named “Evan Williams Black” as its base and is available in 19 stores. Shinsegae reported a 65% increase in whisky sales in Q1 2023 compared to the previous year, with about half of these consumers in their 20s and 30s. This comes as part of a wider trend in South Korea of using artificial humans as models and hosts.
