**NTT Corporation**, together with WITH ALS and Dentsu Lab Tokyo, showcased advancements from Project Humanity at the 2023 Ars Electronica Festival. A central feature of this initiative is the development of digital avatars in the metaverse. These avatars can be controlled using myoelectric sensors placed on the user’s body, translating muscle activity into avatar movements, even capturing the subtle movements from those with ALS. Moreover, NTT is advancing voice technologies that enable avatars to recreate and use an individual’s unique voice through speech synthesis. By 2024, NTT aims to further refine these avatar-based technologies to allow individuals, especially those with disabilities or diseases like ALS, to interact seamlessly within the metaverse.
