Notes:
USAS (UCREL Semantic Analysis System) is a set of software tools developed by the UCREL (University Centre for Computer Corpus Research on Language) at Lancaster University in the UK. It is designed to perform automated semantic tagging and analysis of text data. The system uses a combination of linguistic rules and machine learning algorithms to assign semantic tags to words and phrases in a text, based on their meanings and relationships to other words in the text. These tags can then be used to analyze the text in various ways, such as identifying patterns of meaning, tracking changes in meaning over time, and comparing the meanings of texts across different languages or genres. USAS is widely used in corpus linguistics research, and can be applied to a variety of text types including literary texts, news articles, and conversation transcripts.
- Phraseological analysis is a method of studying the lexical and grammatical patterns of language, specifically, the fixed or semi-fixed collocations of words that frequently occur together in a language. These collocations are known as “phraseological units” or “phrases” and can take the form of idioms, collocations, phrasal verbs, proverbs and other multi-word expressions.
