Notes:
The query formulation module is a component of a dialog system that is responsible for generating queries that can be used to search for relevant information in a knowledge base or corpus of text. This module typically receives input from a variety of other modules, such as the natural language understanding module, the conversation control module, and the ontology extraction module. It then uses this information to generate queries that can be used to search for information that is relevant to the current conversation.
The query formulation module typically includes a set of rules or algorithms that define how the system should generate queries based on the user’s input and the system’s internal state. For example, the module may use rules to identify the key words and phrases in the user’s input, and then use these words and phrases to generate queries that can be used to search for relevant information in the knowledge base or corpus. It may also use algorithms to generate queries that are more complex or sophisticated, such as queries that involve natural language processing or logical reasoning.
Once the queries have been generated, they are passed to the passage retrieval module, which uses them to search for relevant information in the knowledge base or corpus. The passage retrieval module then returns the retrieved information to the language generation module, which converts it into natural language text that can be output to the user.
