Talking Heads

Notes:

Talking heads are virtual or physical representations of conversational agents, also known as avatars or robots. These representations may be 2D or 3D and may be referred to as virtual heads or virtual faces, or robot heads or robot faces, respectively. They may also be called animatronic talking heads.

The talking head is a type of conversational agent that is physically embodied in a robot or avatar. Hanson Robotics is a company that is known for its expertise in animatronic talking heads. The Haskins Laboratory at Yale University has a history of research in this area, and maintains a directory of different talking head projects.

  • Artificial companion is a type of computer program or device that is designed to simulate human companionship or provide social interaction.
  • Interactive online character is a type of virtual being or avatar that is designed to interact with users in a social or entertaining manner through an online platform or website.
