Autodesk ReCap Photo is a reality capture software that allows users to create accurate 3D models from photographs. The software uses photogrammetry, a technique that uses overlapping photographs to create 3D models, to extract data from the images and create a point cloud, which is a collection of 3D points that represent the geometry of the scene.
The process of creating a 3D model with ReCap Photo typically involves several steps:
- Photographing the scene: The user captures a series of photographs of the scene from different angles and positions, ensuring that the images overlap.
- Uploading the photographs: The images are uploaded to the ReCap Photo software.
- Aligning the photographs: The software aligns the photographs to create a 3D point cloud. The software uses the overlapping portions of the images to determine the relative positions of the camera and the objects in the scene.
- Generating the 3D model: The software generates a 3D model from the point cloud, which can be viewed and manipulated in the software.
- Post-processing: Users can then use the post-processing features of the software such as, color adjustment, texturing, cropping and others.
The end result is a highly detailed and accurate 3D model that can be used for a variety of purposes such as architectural and engineering design, construction, and heritage conservation.
ReCap software can also be used to create 3D models with data obtained from 3D Laser Scans, in that case, the process is called “Laser Scan to BIM” workflow.
