What are some of the potential business models for private enterprises working on artificial general intelligence?

What are some of the potential business models for private enterprises working on artificial general intelligence?

Most basically, AGI attempts to copy people.  So, potentially anything that people do AGI could replace; obviously, this will start with the most simple tasks, physical or mental, and progress towards the more complex.  In the recent past we have seen information technology, particularly networked IT, disintermediate middle management, in other words flatten the organization.  Today, particularly in the popular press, there is a great fear of AI replacing white-collar jobs, such as doctors, lawyers, journalists, etc.  And at the same time we hear about robotics, mediated by AI, replacing all kinds of labor at the lower end, such as fully automating agriculture, transportation, warehouses, restaurants, etc.

The reality is that people are imperfect, very often inefficient and highly fallible, whereas smart machines may prove more reliable, more efficient, and more economical.  Thus, there appear to be unlimited opportunities in the medium term for replacing people in the workplace altogether; automate, or be automated.  My personal belief is that Socialism will be the only way forward for humanity in the face of this new dilemma, toward a future heaven or hell.
