Notes:
Virtual humans, also known as digital humans or virtual characters, are computer-generated representations of human beings that can be used in a variety of applications, such as video games, movies, training simulations, or other interactive experiences.
In 2012, virtual humans were used in a variety of different ways, depending on the specific application or context. Some examples of how virtual humans were used in 2012 include:
- Video games: Virtual humans were used as characters in video games, providing the player with opponents, allies, or other characters to interact with. For example, the game “Mass Effect 3” (released in 2012) featured a wide range of virtual human characters, including both main characters and supporting characters.
- Movies: Virtual humans were used as characters in movies, providing the audience with realistic and believable performances. For example, the movie “The Avengers” (released in 2012) featured a virtual human character called the Hulk, who was created using motion capture technology and advanced digital effects.
- Training simulations: Virtual humans were used in training simulations, providing learners with realistic and engaging scenarios that they could practice and learn from. For example, the United States Army used virtual human technology to create a simulation called “Virtual Iraq,” which was used to help soldiers prepare for deployment and to treat post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Virtual assistants: Virtual humans were also used as virtual assistants, providing users with information, advice, or assistance in a natural and human-like way. For example, the virtual assistant “Siri” (released in 2012) used virtual human technology to provide users with information, answers to questions, or other assistance using voice recognition and natural language processing.
