Virtual Human Toolkit 2011 (10x)

Notes:

This text discusses the creation of a conversational agent or virtual character that is able to communicate and reason like a human. The process of creating such a character is complex, but it can be aided by a publicly available toolkit called the Virtual Human Toolkit. The toolkit includes a knowledge base in the form of linked question-answer pairs and can be used to create virtual characters for various purposes, including serving as a multimedia tutor or improving spoken dialogue understanding. The text also mentions the use of the toolkit during the run-time of the system, as well as research on topics related to conversational characters, such as generating question-answer pairs, evaluating character performance, and improving dialogue understanding.

In general, “run-time” refers to the period of time during which a program or system is executing or running. In the context of a virtual human, run-time would refer to the period of time during which the virtual human is active and interacting with users. During run-time, the virtual human would be able to communicate and respond to user input in real-time, using the knowledge and capabilities it has been programmed with. Depending on the specific application and design of the virtual human, it may be able to perform a variety of tasks, such as answering questions, providing information, or engaging in conversations. The run-time of a virtual human may be limited to a specific period of time, or it may run indefinitely until it is shut down or otherwise stopped.
