**Replica Studios **has launched the Early Access release of their Smart NPCs plugin for Unreal Engine. This plugin allows users to integrate NPCs capable of having ‘Smart’ conversations in their games. Players can interact with these NPCs using a microphone, with the NPC responding by using a combination of AI technologies: speech-to-text for listening, Open AI GPT for thinking, and Replica’s AI for text-to-speech. Currently, these operations are cloud-based, causing some latency. Future updates plan to improve voice quality, introduce more voices, multi-language options, and allow users to integrate their own cloud or local LLMs to replace Open AI GPT for reduced latency. Currently, the plugin is free during Early Access but will be a paid service in the future. Join the community discussion on Discord.
