Chinese media reports show that Zhonghua Book Company (zhbc.com.cn) has become a central player in China’s “digital human” initiatives, using AI and 3D ultra-realistic modeling to bring historical and literary figures to life as cultural ambassadors. In August 2022, it launched the first 3D ultra-realistic digital human of Su Dongpo for its 110th anniversary, followed by projects featuring Li Bai, Li Qingzhao, and others, developed using over 7 billion characters of ancient book data and knowledge graphs to recreate both likeness and “spiritual authenticity.” In January 2025, Zhonghua Book Company partnered with the Datong Municipal Party Committee and local media to release China’s first 3D hyper-real digital human of Hua Mulan, designed as a city image IP to promote cultural–tourism integration in Shanxi’s ancient capital. These projects, often developed with Gulián (Beijing) Digital Media Technology (ancientbooks.cn) and other partners, have been showcased at major cultural events, reader open days, and national TV programs like Chinese Poetry Conference, highlighting a strategy to merge traditional heritage with cutting-edge digital publishing, immersive AI education spaces, and cultural IP commercialization.
