[Huawei Connect 2022] **Human-like AI human ‘Sara’… When asked if he was married, he said, “I’m single.”**
At the Huawei Connect 2022 held on the 19th (local time), Huawei introduced its virtual human employee ‘Sara’. The audience observed the virtual human on the monitor and had the experience of having a conversation as if they had met a real person. This is a part that gives a glimpse into how virtual humans appearing in real life can communicate with people.
From the 19th, Huawei held the ‘Huawei Connect 2022’ event in Bangkok, Thailand. At one side of the entrance to the event hall, there is a monitor with the appearance of Huawei’s self-developed AI virtual human ‘Sara’.
Sara recognizes the position and movement of the audience in real time through a camera mounted on the monitor, and makes eye contact or waves her hand. When the audience asks a question, they answer it. Conversation is possible in English and Thai.
When a visitor asked, “Hello, Sara, how are you?” Sara asked, “How are you, how are you?” When asked where she lives, she said, “I live in Bangkok,” and when asked if she was married, she answered, “I’m still single.”
Sara also imitates the movements of the audience. If you wave your hand to say hello, Sara will also wave your hand. Also, when the audience moved to the right, Sarah turned her body to the left, which was clearly visible to the audience, and made eye contact.
An exhibition official said, “Sara is similar to the AI â??â??introduced by Amazon and Microsoft. It means that there are countless words or sentences that Sarah can use. Conversation is possible through the data learned by the AI â??â??developed in-house.
Specifically, the process of Sara’s conversation is as follows. When a human asks a question, the chatbot recognizes the voice and converts it into words. Then, after finding the right answer through big data analysis, the right answer is spoken in language.
The AI â??â??technology applied to Sara can be applied to hospitals, public services, government agencies, and stores in the future. For example, Sara can have conversations with patients on behalf of actual nurses in hospitals where non-face-to-face culture has become routine due to COVID-19.
However, there are still technical limitations.
Sophisticated answers or screens
The graphics and sound quality gave me an awkward feeling.
An official from the exhibition said, “Sara is a prototype model that is not currently commercialized.” “Sara’s appearance may still look like a ‘fake’, but through efforts such as making detailed graphics by imitating the movement of human bones and muscles, “We are developing technology to make it look like a human,” he said.
