**Song Jae-won, director of engine lab oil, “Digital human, commercialization after R&D”**
â??In order to create a digital human , various factors such as artificial intelligence (AI), visual, voice, and natural language processing and understanding must be considered. With a structure where no specific company can do everything, Engin Visual Wave is focusing on developing technology that realizes a natural mouth shape when speaking.â?
Song Jae-won, head of Lab Oil at Engine Visual Wave, said, â??In order for digital humans to be fully utilized in the content industry and used in everyday life, the high cost issue must be resolved and a collaborative ecosystem must be created.â? Engin Visual Wave (hereafter referred to as Engine) is a subsidiary specializing in visual special effects ( VFX ) and computer graphics (CG) of NEW, known as a movie distributor . Lab Oil (Lab51) is an R&D laboratory within the engine. Lab Oil is developing and upgrading ‘Core Lips’, a speech-driven animation technology based on Korean phonemes. When digital humans speak Korean, they use the most natural mouth shape. Director Song said, â??Digital humans have debuted and are working as advertising models, but the more they use it, the more expensive it is. Among the various elements that make up digital humans, the goal is to achieve a technological super-gap with other companies in the field of mouth shape and visuals when speaking.
Even if digital humans are used due to current production cost limitations, it is difficult to find content that shows a close-up of a conversation scene. Engine plans to commercialize Laboil’s Core Lips technology, starting with an online education platform and expanding its service offering to broadcasting video contents and games. In the education industry, where online lectures have developed, inquiries are increasing about whether digital humans can be used in lectures.
Director Song said, â??Technology that combines voice with chatGPT text will be developed,â? and â??Lab Oil will play a role in creating a face that digital humans can read text naturally.â?
Laboil also developed ‘In a Day Digital Human’ technology, which allows real people to be 3D scanned and operated within 24 hours. It is the result of repeated R&D efforts to lower the entry barrier for digital human production and to reduce production cost and time. The plan is to develop a kiosk that can communicate with people using digital humans, load customized content, and lead natural conversations with Core Lips technology.
Engin Lab Oil is also co-developing a ‘digital human actor’ with Selvas AI to commercialize digital humans. It aims to become a digital human with visuals that can emit a natural voice by reflecting human characteristics, habits, and even emotional states.
Director Song said, â??Lab Oil will advance, commercialize, and commercialize technologies such as â??In a Day Digital Humanâ?? and â??Core Lipsâ??. goal,â? he said.
Meanwhile, Enjin Lab Oil participated in the VFX production of broadcasting video content such as Netflix’s original ‘Hell’ and ‘Jeongi’ and Disney Plus’ original ‘Moving’ with digital scan technology. The 2019 Melon Music Awards (MMA) also supported the production of augmented reality (AR) performances.
