OpenAI, the company behind the AI chatbot ChatGPT, and Sequoia Capital, a renowned Silicon Valley venture capital firm, have invested in Ava, a digital avatar friend for young people. Ava is being developed by French entrepreneur Clara Gold and her business partner Etienne Genvrin. The Paris-based team, consisting of 12 engineers, has been quietly working on Ava for several months, with plans to launch this summer. The exact amount of investment is unknown, but the funding round was reportedly “hotly contested” due to increasing interest in companies developing AI tech. Gold’s aim for Ava is to help combat loneliness, especially among younger generations. Ava is represented as a young woman with blue hair, wearing a pink crop top, black tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers.
