Artificially intelligent streams on Twitch are becoming increasingly common, despite previous examples of the technology going awry due to an inability to understand the emotional weight and context of words. One of the new AI channels, run by The Singularity Group, features an AI depiction of Jesus Christ, named ask_jesus, providing life advice and answering viewer questions on topics ranging from video games to social issues.
This AI Jesus utilizes text-to-speech software Play.ht and the chatbot generator ChatGPT4. The image of Jesus is a looping video of an actor, with an AI-generated mouth superimposed to appear as though Jesus is speaking the generated words. AI Jesus is intended to give compassionate, considerate responses, refusing inappropriate or disrespectful requests but tackling a wide range of subjects.
The Singularity Group is a tech-driven philanthropic organization made up of volunteer activists from over 36 countries, focused on innovative projects to effect positive change. Active for more than 11 years, the group, based near Berlin, Germany, has raised over $25 million for charity.
