**Taiwan’s FTV News** has debuted an artificial intelligence (AI) character as a weather presenter, marking a first for the country. Developed over six months using AIGC technology, this virtual presenter is capable of photorealistic human imaging and learning from previous broadcasts to improve its speech and overall delivery. As part of the AI’s training, it’s given daily news scripts to “practice”. Despite the advancement, the use of AI in TV broadcasting has raised ethical concerns, especially around the spread of unchecked or false information. Taiwan’s government, through the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the National Science Council, is currently discussing relevant policies, and the National Communications Commission reserves the right to intervene if AI anchors disseminate incorrect information.
