**Eugenia Virtual Humans: Pioneering Digital Avatar Creation in Mexico Amidst Hollywood Chaos **
Eugenia Virtual Humans, a pioneering company in creating digital avatars in Mexico, believes that technology should not completely replace humans but should be seen as a complementary tool. This stance is taken amidst a chaos in Hollywood, where artists, actors, writers, and various industry workers are striking, demanding clarity on contracts that allow the use of their image or substitution by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Erick Hans Guevara, CEO and co-founder of Eugenia Virtual Humans, argues that technology can assist actors by reducing the burden of their work. The company was founded in 2020 by Carlos Vilchis, Iván Muñoz, and Erick Hans Guevara, after noting a rising demand for digitization services. Eugenia became a pioneer in creating more realistic digital avatars and developing the first scanning system in Mexico.
Six main industries currently seek such technology: video game developers, special effects, digital marketing, architecture, AI, and digital health. The digital health industry is expected to grow from a value of $175 billion in 2019 to $657 billion by 2025, partly due to investment in technologies such as people digitization, according to international consultant Statista.
Eugenia Virtual Humans’ technology is based on a scanning system that uses 64 cameras to capture a person’s natural expressions and movements. This has attracted large electronic companies like Netflix and Amazon, and their technology has been used in video games like FIFA.
According to a report by Research and Markets, the global virtual humans market was valued at $11.3 billion in 2021 and is estimated to reach $440.3 billion by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate of 44.7% between 2022 and 2031.
Eugenia’s next challenge is to specialize in scanning technology and enable people to access digitization technology through mobile devices. The company plans to expand internationally with scanning centers in Madrid and Vancouver to cover the European and North American markets.
Eugenia believes the human digitization industry will grow as a technological revolution that will transform how we interact with the digital world and our personal identity, and that eventually, everyone will be digital. They also believe that working with technologies like blockchain will allow a person to own their digital image in the future.
Eugenia acknowledges the fear within many industries regarding AI but emphasizes that this technology should be considered a complementary tool to enhance work quality. Even with AI’s capability to write scripts or substitute actors with digitizations or deepfakes, the human essence characterizing entertainment will still be missing, Hans concluded.
