The Amarillo City Council has approved a $582,948 funding to implement an artificial intelligence (AI) powered digital human on the city’s website for enhanced customer service. The digital human will provide conversational access to the website, helping users find necessary information and instructions for filling out forms. The goal is to make the website more user-friendly and accessible, particularly for those who are not technologically savvy.
The AI assistant, which will be capable of learning new information added to the website overnight, will ultimately cover all information available on the site, including reporting infrastructure issues like potholes or broken traffic lights. It will only provide answers related to city knowledge and services and will be capable of communicating in over 90 languages.
The funding, paid to **Dell Technologies**, will cover the costs for software, development, yearly maintenance, server development, and troubleshooting. Amarillo is the first city in the U.S. to implement such a technology, with the aim to save human resources by handling over 80% of inquiries via the virtual assistant. The first department models for this program are expected to be available for testing by September, with a full rollout anticipated over the next year.
