**Roblox** is introducing a new feature that will allow users to sell “full avatar bodies and standalone heads” they create, as part of its user-generated content (UGC) initiative, according to a post on its developer forums. This move is seen as a strategy to encourage more people to build businesses on Roblox, potentially retaining them from creating for competing metaverse platforms like Metaâ??s Horizon Worlds and Epic Gamesâ?? Fortnite. There will be restrictions on the items that users can sell, such as adhering to community standards and marketplace policies, including restrictions against obvious imitations of copyrighted characters like Shrek. Items must also adhere to size limits to ensure functionality and must have “modesty layers” built in, considering the platform’s popularity among children. To incentivize creators, Roblox is waiving upload fees and setting no minimum price for these virtual items. Creators will earn 30% of the sale of an avatar body or head, with an additional 40% going to the owner of the location where the virtual items are sold, potentially allowing creators to earn up to 70% of the sale if they sell items within their own Roblox experiences. Currently, creators cannot make limited-run bodies or heads, but Roblox is considering changing this based on user feedback.
