**Steam** has removed a game, “Heard of the Story?”, from its platform due to concerns regarding its AI content policy. The game’s creator shared the incident on Reddit and Twitter, explaining that the game once had an optional feature allowing players to use ChatGPT for NPC dialogue through an API. This feature required players to use their OpenAI API key. When the game was submitted for an Early Access review, Valve, the company behind Steam, sought further information about its AI usage. The developer then eliminated this feature to alleviate concerns. Despite these measures, after a prolonged review period, Valve permanently removed the game, citing AI content as the reason. The developer expressed profound disappointment, emphasizing the absence of directly embedded AI content. Valve’s decision to delist the game appears to be in line with its stringent stance on AI-generated content, pending legal determinations on AI content ownership. However, the developer emphasizes that the game did not actively provide AI-generated content and only drew NPC dialogue from a database without using Generative AI.
