Notes:
Betty’s Brain is a computer-based learning environment that helps students develop metacognitive skills and learn about science topics. It uses a graphical character called Betty that students can teach using a visual causal map representation, and provides students with tools for model building tasks. The system has been shown to be effective in helping students develop more accurate concept maps and improve their self-regulation skills. It can also promote intrinsic motivation and has been used to study the tutor learning effect and the effects of reflective feedback on students’ self-regulated learning. The system has also been implemented in a simulation-based “game” environment and has been used in conjunction with a web-based reading annotation system to promote reading performance.
