Machine learning is a subfield of Artificial Intelligence that deals with the development of algorithms and statistical models that enable computers to learn from data and make predictions or decisions without being explicitly programmed to do so. Machine learning algorithms can be broadly categorized into three main types: supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning.
Supervised learning algorithms are used to train models on a labeled dataset, where the desired output is already known. These models can then be used to make predictions on new, unseen data. Common examples include linear regression, logistic regression, and decision trees.
Unsupervised learning algorithms are used to find patterns or structure in unlabelled data. These algorithms are used to group similar data points together, identify anomalies, or find low-dimensional representations of the data. Common examples include k-means clustering, principal component analysis, and autoencoders.
Reinforcement learning is used to train models to make a sequence of decisions. The model is trained to maximize a reward signal, and it learns to make decisions based on the feedback it receives. Reinforcement learning is used in robotics, gaming, and decision making systems.
Machine learning has a wide range of applications in industries such as healthcare, finance, e-commerce, transportation, and more. It also has many important tasks such as image and speech recognition, natural language processing, and prediction.

- Cluster Analysis is a technique used to group a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group (called a cluster) are more similar to each other than to those in other groups (clusters).
- Computational Learning Theory is a subfield of artificial intelligence and computer science that deals with the study of algorithms for machine learning. It deals with the mathematical properties of learning algorithms, such as their sample complexity and computational complexity.
- Decision Trees are a type of supervised learning algorithm used for classification and regression tasks. They are a flowchart-like tree structure, where each internal node represents a feature(or attribute), each branch represents a decision rule, and each leaf node represents the outcome.
- Dimension Reduction is a technique used to reduce the number of random variables under consideration by obtaining a set of principal variables. It is used to remove noise and redundancy in data, also to make the data more manageable and visualization easier.
- Ensemble Learning is a technique in which multiple models are trained and combined to solve a problem. These models are combined to either improve the classification or regression performance, or to increase the robustness of the model.
- Evolutionary Algorithms are a subset of artificial intelligence and optimization techniques that are inspired by the process of natural evolution. They are used for optimization, search, and machine learning problems, and often used to find approximate solutions to problems for which an exact solution is not known.
- Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is a form of machine learning that uses logic programming to induce first-order logic programs from input-output examples. It is based on the idea of using a set of examples to induce a hypothesis in the form of a logic program, which can then be used to make predictions.
- Kernel Methods for Machine Learning are a set of algorithms that use a kernel function to transform the input data into a higher-dimensional space, where it becomes linearly separable. The kernel trick is a technique used to avoid the computational cost of explicitly computing the coordinates of the data in a higher-dimensional space.
- Latent Variable Models are a class of probabilistic models that incorporate unobserved or latent variables into the model. These variables are not directly observed, but their effects are inferred through the observed variables. Examples include Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Factor Analysis.
- Learning in Computer Vision refers to the process of training a computer system to understand and interpret visual information, such as images and videos. This can include tasks such as object recognition, image segmentation, and scene understanding.
- Loss Functions are mathematical functions that are used to measure the difference between the predicted output and the true output during the training of a machine learning model. - Support Vector Machines (SVMs) are a type of supervised learning algorithm that can be used for classification and regression tasks. They work by finding the best boundary (or hyperplane) that separates the different classes in the data, and uses this boundary to make predictions. They are particularly useful when the data has many features, as they are able to find the most relevant ones and use them to make predictions.
