What is the theoretical and practical importance of text linguistics?
According to Wikipedia… it is an application of Discourse analysis at the much broader level of text, rather than just a sentence or word. One interesting concept associated with text linguistics is Intertextuality, in other words how texts as a whole are related to one another in terms of overall contextual understanding. Another clue lies in Social semiotics, or how larger social and cultural circumstances affect the making of meaning.
