**Dai Nippon Printing Develops Prototype of AI-Powered Virtual Character for Customer Service in Retail Stores**
Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) announced on May 10 that it has developed a prototype service featuring a virtual character capable of rich expressions to serve customers in retail stores and commercial facilities, using the Japanese conversational AI ‘LIFE TALK ENGINE’ developed by Wellville.
In this service, a DNP original virtual character equipped with the ‘LIFE TALK ENGINE’ developed by Wellville, which enables natural communication with humans, is designed. The virtual character introduces facilities or products and serves customers after registering service information of real stores in the AI engine in advance. It has become a conversational AI that can be flexibly and quickly modified to suit customer service scenarios.
A characteristic of this service is its ultra-high-speed engine that can determine not only the meaning of words when humans speak but also emotions through voice, and can respond in real time. Therefore, the virtual character responds with rich expressions based on the content of the conversation, providing users with a more entertaining interactive communication experience.
In the future, they plan to display it at the “Tokyo Anime Center in DNP PLAZA SHIBUYA” (Shibuya, Tokyo) in late May and conduct verification and research towards the start of services within the fiscal year 2023, assuming usage in real stores, commercial facilities, and the metaverse. They also want to test a tourism DX service, “Walking Around Town x Dialogue AI”, which displays the service on people’s smartphones and introduces tourist spots and stores.
