**South Korea’s National Tax Service to Launch AI Tax Secretary**

The National Tax Service (NTS) of South Korea is planning to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tax secretary to simplify tax filings and payments. By 2030, taxpayers will be able to interact with a **virtual human** counselor for assistance on complex tax matters such as reporting financial income. This AI tax secretary will not only explain complicated tax terminology but also respond to voice cues to facilitate a more human-like interaction. The AI’s capabilities will range from grouping taxpayers and recommending report forms to estimating taxes and suggesting saving methods. By the final stage of development, the AI will be able to provide voice counseling and offer personalized tax-saving support services based on the accumulated big data. The NTS has analyzed both domestic and international AI services to integrate their strengths and address their shortcomings. The AI tax secretary is expected to be trialed on some reports like value-added tax and capital gains tax by next year, with services expanding progressively to other major tax items.
