NTT Research, Inc., a division of NTT, and the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center (NCVC) in Japan have announced an agreement to jointly establish a Bio Digital Twin Center in Suita, Japan. This initiative continues their 2020 agreement on cardiovascular bio digital twin (CV BioDT) research.
The Bio Digital Twin Center will work on integrating mathematical models onto the CV BioDT platform, which were co-developed by the Medical & Health Informatics (MEI) Lab at NTT Research and the NCVC. The team, led by Drs. Kazunori Uemura and Keita Saku, will aim to develop applications that support clinical decision-making and patient self-care.
The NTT Research MEI Lab’s objective is to create complex digital assets crucial for patient care and wellbeing, specifically focusing on precision cardiology through the development of an organ systems-level CV BioDT. They are currently working on computational models for interventions for acute myocardial infarction and acute heart failure.
The Bio Digital Twin Center will use clinical data to validate mathematical models that have been derived and tested using animal experiments, essentially translating the models for human application. The ultimate goal is to progress towards precision medicine, starting with the cardiovascular bio digital twin.
In addition to its work with NCVC, the MEI Lab has also collaborated with the Disease Biophysics Group at Harvard University and the Neuroelectrical Group at the Technical University of Munich on related projects.
