**NHK Enterprises Launches KIKI, a Photorealistic Digital Human Specializing in Sign Language**
NHK Enterprises, part of the NEP Group, has introduced a photorealistic digital human named KIKI who specializes in sign language. The aim of this development is to advance an inclusive society. Sign language, which employs not only hand and arm movements but also facial expressions, body movements, and space, is well-suited for expression by a humanoid like KIKI.
KIKI’s backstory involves a brother who lost his hearing due to an illness at a young age, inspiring her to become an interpreter. The developers of KIKI, including supervisors, directors, managers, and technical producers, hope that KIKI will serve as a tool to help convey the beauty of the world to as many people as possible, including people with hearing disabilities.
The NHK Enterprises team is developing inclusive content with KIKI, along with a system that automatically generates sign language CG videos. Their goal is to tackle social issues and promote an inclusive society where everyone can enjoy content, regardless of hearing ability.
