In an effort to visualize what the children who disappeared during Argentina’s 1976 military coup might look like today, **Argentine artist Santiago Barros** has utilized artificial intelligence. The military coup led to approximately 30,000 people being killed or disappearing, with around 500 of them being children and babies. Activist group, The Abuelas of Plaza de Mayo, formed by grandmothers and mothers of the victims, has worked tirelessly to locate the missing children and found 132 so far. Barros uses the Midjourney app to merge photos of the disappeared parents from the public archive of the Abuela’s website to create probable adult faces of the lost children. However, the initiative acknowledges that DNA testing remains the only reliable method for identification.
