Chinese AI startup, **Xmov**, recently showcased a highly realistic 3D AI personality named Jing at a launch event in Shanghai, gaining significant attention. Founded in 2018, Xmov is a pioneer in developing expressive and interactive AI-powered digital humans and has previously launched virtual influencers such as Ling and Ling Yanhuan, who have amassed considerable followings. China is increasingly leading the global AI research sphere, with a recent study indicating its dominance over the US in AI-related publications. Furthermore, the nation’s ambitions are set on becoming the world AI leader by 2030.
Hangzhou, known as China’s major livestreaming hub, has been exploring AI-generated hosts for livestreaming purposes. The drive is to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Traditional livestreaming rooms cost over 150,000 yuan ($20,604) monthly, while virtual rooms run at a fraction of that cost. Tests show that AI hosts’ performance is comparable, if not superior, to human hosts. Despite the advancements, experts emphasize that AI cannot fully replace humans, particularly in establishing trust. Predictions indicate that both human and virtual livestreamers will coexist in the future. However, the introduction of virtual employees also presents challenges, including data access rights and accountability issues.
