1) The screenshot below is from Google Books Ngram Viewer for the terms virtual human and virtual humans over a fifty year period, from 1958 to 2008. What can be clearly seen here is that usage of the terms radically escalated from 1990, and began to de-escalate by about 2007.

2) The screenshot below is from Google Trends for worldwide web search of the terms virtual human and virtual humans over a ten year period, from 2009 to 2018. What can be seen here is that the de-escalation of terms from 2007 has continued to this day.
